They say that all fashion goes in circles, and that is certainly true when it comes to considering Western style. Cropping up every 5 or 6 years, we love to embrace this laidback country style that has us dreaming of wide open prairie plains and cowboys.
So to stay up to date with your fashion choices for the next season or two, and introduce a couple of elements from the western look into your style. You don’t have to go full on Calamity Jane, but it is a surprisingly versatile look that is great for pretty much all ages and figures. If you’re still a bit doubtful that the look is perhaps not quite you, why not have a go at trying these pieces below – you never know, you might just love how they look!
Lightweight, comfortable, easy to wear and usually featuring some dainty floral pattern in subtle faded colours, prairie skirts are just perfect for spring and summer, and will even see you into the start of autumn with ease. Usually made from cotton, in tiers or with buttons down the front, and with a flattering A-line midi shape to mid-calf, a prairie skirt will give you a really feminine hourglass shape since it nips in at the waist before flaring out. Team with a fine-knit plain sweater or a basic tee for a nod to the western trend.
Love them or hate them, there will be no avoiding cowboy boots this season, and since they are so comfortable and look great with both jeans and skirts, why would you want to anyway?! Shiny black numbers are the big look at the moment, and that means that they are more versatile than ever. With a slightly pointed toe they are more flattering than you think too, so it is time to give them a go.
Especially if it is in leather or suede, fringing is one of the big points in the western trend, and is probably the easiest way to try out the look. A cross-body bag with some dramatic fringing is ideal if you would rather just dip your toe in the trend, or for the more fashion forward, there are stunning jacket options out there that look incredible. We love pastel suede numbers with some fringing on the back and sleeves for an on trend look that ticks all the right boxes.
A rhinestone or two
We’ve already got Rhinestone Cowboy on repeat in our heads, and there is nothing wrong with a bit of bling thanks to a rhinestone or two. Try out a denim shirt with some cool rhinestone details, or have a go at sticking some to an old pair of blue jeans for an upcycle that is seriously cheap! Have a look in craft stores and charity shops to have some fun creating your own western pieces.
This is a really fun yet flattering trend to try out, so hop on the bandwagon now and start singing those western songs.
